Food Bank Resources
Government Sources:
The Daviess County Food Bank receives the majority of its food from these United States Department Agriculture (USDA) and state government food programs listed below:
TEFAP
(Temporary Emergency Food Assistance Program website)
The Emergency Food Assistance Program (TEFAP) is a federal program that helps supplement the diets of low-income Americans, including elderly people, by providing them with emergency food assistance at no cost. Through TEFAP, the U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA) purchases a variety of nutritious, high-quality USDA Foods, and makes those foods available to State Distributing Agencies.
During the hunting season the Food Bank receives deer meat from Share the Harvest. Missouri's Share the Harvest program helps deer hunters donate surplus venison to the needy. This program is administered by the Conservation Federation of Missouri and the Missouri Department of Conservation.
Donating is easy. Simply take your deer to an approved meat processor and let the processor know how much venison you wish to donate.
CSFP (The Commodity Supplemental Food Program) for Seniors
Serving Seniors with a Monthly Package - The Commodity Supplemental Food Program (CSFP) works to improve the health of low-income persons at least 60 years of age by supplementing their diets with nutritious USDA Foods.
Non-Government Sources: Sporadically, the Food Bank receives food donations from the Jamesport Produce Auction, local food farmers, merchants and home gardeners. The Adventist Community Services Center (ACSC) Thrift Store receives donations of usable clothing, shoes, furniture and household goods which are sorted and sold in the store. The Thrift Store proceeds go to fund the Daviess County Food Bank and other services available through the Adventist Community Services Center. In addition, the Center receives some cash donations from individuals and agencies.
